KNOXVILLE — No. 1 Texas travels to face No. 14 Tennessee in one of the biggest games of Week 4 and the SEC opener for both teams. Both enter 3-0, with Texas coming off a 23-14 win over UTSA and Tennessee coming off a 42-9 victory over Kennesaw State. It is Texas’ first road game of the season and the first regular-season meeting between the programs.
Texas is led by quarterback Arch Manning, who has thrown for 664 yards and seven touchdowns through three games. The Longhorns have also relied heavily on their rushing attack, while their defense has been one of the stronger units early in the season. Tennessee coach Josh Heupel specifically highlighted Texas’ experience on the offensive line and throughout its defense.
Tennessee enters SEC play undefeated after putting up at least 42 points in each of its first three games. Freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon has emerged as a major storyline, while the Volunteers have also shown strong offensive production under Heupel. The Kennesaw State win gave Tennessee a fifth consecutive undefeated regular season in nonconference play.
