Game Analysis:

OXFORD — No. 9 Ole Miss enters at 4-1 and 2-1 in SEC play, while No. 13 Missouri is 5-1 and 2-1 in the conference. Ole Miss bounced back from its loss at Florida with a 52-17 win over Vanderbilt, while Missouri is coming off an impressive 27-6 victory over Texas A&M.

Missouri’s offense is led by quarterback Austin Simmons, who spent the first part of his college career at Ole Miss. Simmons has thrown 10 touchdowns against just one interception this season, and former Ole Miss receiver Cayden Lee is also returning to Oxford as one of his primary targets. The Tigers have complemented their passing game with a physical rushing attack.

Ole Miss continues to rely heavily on Trinidad Chambliss, whose mobility and quick decision-making have been important to the Rebels’ offense. The running game has been less consistent with Kewan Lacy limited by injury, putting additional responsibility on Chambliss and the passing attack.

Missouri’s defense is coming off one of its best performances of the season after holding Texas A&M to six points. The Tigers’ defensive front created consistent disruption, and containing Chambliss outside the pocket will be one of its biggest assignments. Ole Miss is also monitoring starting safety Edwin Joseph after he suffered an ankle sprain against Vanderbilt.

The central matchup is Missouri’s defensive front against an Ole Miss offense averaging nearly 39 points per game. There is also some unusual history in the series: Missouri leads the all-time matchup 7-1 and has not lost to Ole Miss since 1974.
