KNOXVILLE — No. 6 Alabama and No. 14 Tennessee both enter at 5-1, with Alabama sitting 3-1 in SEC play and Tennessee at 2-1. Alabama is coming off its first loss of the season, a 20-17 game against Georgia, while Tennessee escaped Arkansas with a 24-17 road win.
Alabama’s offense is led by Keelon Russell, who has thrown for 1,599 yards with 12 touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 225 yards and four scores on the ground. The Crimson Tide may be without leading receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams, who suffered head and knee injuries against Georgia and is considered unlikely to play.
Tennessee has more uncertainty at quarterback. Freshman Faizon Brandon has been dealing with a shoulder injury, allowing George MacIntyre to make his first career start against Arkansas. MacIntyre threw for 247 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, and Josh Heupel has not yet committed to a starter against Alabama.
The Volunteers’ running game could be especially important. DeSean Bishop has 678 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, helping Tennessee average more than 228 rushing yards per game.
