Game Analysis:
DETROIT — The Packers enter at 4-2 and riding a three-game winning streak, while the Lions are 3-2 coming out of their bye week. Green Bay beat Dallas 23-13 last week, while Detroit’s most recent game was a 45-21 road victory over Arizona. The matchup carries added weight in an NFC North where every team currently has a winning record.
Green Bay has leaned heavily on Jordan Love because its running game has struggled. Love has thrown for 1,684 yards with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions, while Christian Watson leads the receiving corps with 538 yards and six touchdowns. The Packers are averaging only 59.8 rushing yards per game, the lowest mark in the NFL.
That could change with Josh Jacobs eligible to return. Jacobs has missed the first six games of the season but will practice this week, although Green Bay has not committed to giving him a full workload against Detroit. Even a limited return could give the Packers more balance around Love.
Detroit’s offense remains one of the league’s most explosive units. Jared Goff has thrown for 1,485 yards with 12 touchdowns and no interceptions, while Jahmyr Gibbs has 504 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Sam LaPorta give Goff multiple options against a Green Bay defense that has been effective at creating turnovers.
The central matchup is Green Bay’s passing game against Detroit’s secondary. The Lions have struggled defending the pass, but Brian Branch is expected to make his season debut after recovering from a torn Achilles. Detroit also expects center Cade Mays back. Green Bay swept the Lions last season, and Love has been particularly effective at Ford Field, throwing eight touchdowns without an interception in his three career starts there.
