Match Analysis:
And Now! After losing his belt in a shocking upset last fight, Kamaru Usman is back to get his revenge. It’s the trilogy fight between Usman and Edwards and it is shaping up to be an excellent card. Here’s what you need to know about the title fight to make the most out of this sweet offer from Sports Illustrated.
Leon Edwards shocked the world in his last fight against Usman and ended up with an amazing victory to cement himself as a champion once again. After Usman had controlled much of the fight it seemed that Edwards was resigned to losing by decision, when in a flash he landed a head kick knocking Usman out with that one blow. Leon boasts an overall record of 20-3 with one no-contest. One of his losses was a disqualification, but his other two were by decision. All of the times he has lost the fight has gone the distance and he has never been knocked out which is impressive. He has won all three of his title fights, with his first belt coming all the way back in 2014 which was around the peak time to be alive. He has also recently won against Nate Diaz, but did notably lose his first fight win Usman back in 2015 to a unanimous decision. Since then he is undefeated and absolutely geared up to defend his title. The big question is; will he be able to?
Now Kamaru Usman was at one point the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, and he seems hungry to regain that title as well as the Welterweight belt. While Edwards is primarily a striker, Usman also has been known as a freestyle fighter as well as a striker. His professional record is 20-2 and up until his surprising loss to Edwards had not dropped a fight since 2013. To put that into perspective in 2013 I think my biggest problem was convincing my parents to let me go see the Wolf of Wall Street. Spoiler alert, they did not let me. Usman is 7-1 in title fights, and until he was abruptly knocked out in August it seemed like he was going to be 8-0. Leon is known to have slower-paced fights and try to win at the end, while Usman loves to finish bouts as fast as he can. Will Edwards try and win by decision, or can Usman end it with a bang?
