Game Analysis:
AUSTIN — No. 1 Ohio State travels to No. 4 Texas for one of the biggest games of the young season. Both teams opened with dominant wins, with Ohio State beating Ball State 56-3 and Texas crushing Texas State 59-7. It is also a rematch of last year's 14-7 Ohio State victory, giving Texas another chance to knock off the Buckeyes after falling to them twice in the past two seasons.
Ohio State has plenty of star power, led by quarterback Julian Sayin and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. Sayin threw for 3,610 yards and 32 touchdowns last season, while Smith remains one of the most dangerous receivers in the country. The one concern coming out of the Ball State game was the offensive line, particularly the run blocking, which will face a much tougher test against Texas.
For Texas, this is largely about Arch Manning getting another shot at Ohio State. Manning struggled badly in last year's matchup but looked much more comfortable in the opener, throwing for 305 yards and four touchdowns. He'll now face a significantly better Buckeye defense, while receivers Ryan Wingo and Cam Coleman give Texas the weapons to attack Ohio State's revamped secondary.
The biggest matchup may be Ohio State's passing game against Texas' defense. The Longhorns will likely devote plenty of attention to Smith, meaning other Buckeye receivers could have opportunities. On the other side, Ohio State needs its secondary to hold up against Texas' NFL-caliber receiving group and prevent Manning from getting comfortable.
Overall, this feels like a genuine toss-up despite Texas being a slight favorite at home. Ohio State has won the last two meetings, but Austin gives Texas a major advantage and Manning is a much more experienced quarterback this time around. I expect a close, physical game that comes down to the fourth quarter, with Ohio State having a slight edge because of its experience in these big-game situations.
