MELBOURNE — The 49ers and Rams open their seasons in one of the most unusual Week 1 matchups, with the NFC West rivals meeting in Australia. San Francisco went 12-5 last season and reached the divisional round, while Los Angeles enters with major expectations of its own after another strong year under Sean McVay. The international setting adds another layer to an already important divisional game.
San Francisco’s biggest storyline is health. Nick Bosa and George Kittle are both traveling to Australia and have returned to practice, giving the 49ers hope that two of their biggest stars can make their season debuts.
