Game Analysis:
GREEN BAY — The Cowboys enter at 2-3 after a 24-16 loss to Tampa Bay, while the Packers are 3-2 after consecutive wins over the Buccaneers and Bears. Green Bay’s latest performance was its strongest of the season, pulling away from Chicago for a 31-7 win, while Dallas is trying to regain momentum after an inconsistent opening five games.
Dallas has still been productive offensively, averaging 27.6 points and 351.1 yards per game. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and the passing game remain the foundation, but the Cowboys struggled against Tampa Bay’s pressure packages and scored only 16 points despite having their regular offensive starters together.
The bigger concern for Dallas is its defense. The Cowboys rank near the bottom of the league in total defense and are allowing 168.4 rushing yards per game. They have brought in veteran coach Mike Pettine as a senior defensive assistant, while DeMarvion Overshown is getting closer to returning after missing four games with a hamstring injury.
Green Bay’s offense is coming off a big-play performance against Chicago, with Christian Watson scoring twice and continuing a strong start to the season. The Packers are dealing with significant defensive injuries, though, as Javon Hargrave and Edgerrin Cooper are out for the season with Achilles injuries. Micah Parsons also remains on the PUP list while recovering from last season’s ACL tear and is not expected back against his former team.
The central matchup is Dallas’ offense against a depleted but productive Green Bay defense that has 14 sacks through five games. On the other side, the Packers will try to exploit a Cowboys defense that has struggled against both the run and pass. Green Bay has controlled the recent series, going 10-1-1 against Dallas over the last 12 meetings, including last season’s 40-40 tie.
