SANTA CLARA — The 49ers enter this matchup undefeated at 5-0, while Washington sits at 1-3-1 after a 27-27 overtime tie with the Giants. San Francisco has remained one of the NFC’s strongest teams through the opening part of the season, while the Commanders are trying to recover before heading into their bye week.
Washington’s biggest storyline is Jayden Daniels. He returned from his elbow injury against New York and immediately became the center of the offense again, throwing for 199 yards while adding 103 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. His mobility gives Washington another dimension after Marcus Mariota handled the offense during Daniels’ absence.
San Francisco has continued winning despite dealing with several injuries. Brock Purdy remains the centerpiece of the offense, with Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle giving the 49ers multiple ways to attack underneath and over the middle.
