ANN ARBOR — No. 6 Indiana enters at 6-1 and 3-1 in Big Ten play, while Michigan is 4-2 and 1-2 in the conference. The Hoosiers are coming off their first loss of the season, a 19-15 defeat against Ohio State, while Michigan rallied to beat Penn State 21-18.
Indiana continues to get strong quarterback play from Josh Hoover. He threw for 296 yards and a touchdown against Ohio State and has gone five straight games without an interception. The Hoosiers need more from their rushing attack, however, after failing to produce an explosive run in either of their last two games.
Michigan has a major decision at quarterback. Bryce Underwood struggled against Penn State, completing 5 of 11 passes for 43 yards with two interceptions before Tommy Carr played the second half. Carr helped lead three touchdown drives and also scored on a 12-yard run, potentially creating a two-quarterback situation against Indiana.
Michigan’s running game is another important factor. The Wolverines rushed for a season-high 211 yards against Penn State, with Bryson Kuzdzal, Savion Hiter and Carr all producing explosive runs. Indiana’s defensive front responded well against Ohio State, with Tobi Osunsanmi and Mario Landino combining for four sacks.
The central matchup is Indiana’s offense against a Michigan defense that has been difficult to consistently move the ball against. Indiana won the most recent meeting 20-15 in 2024, but history in Ann Arbor heavily favors Michigan. The Wolverines have won 22 consecutive home games against Indiana, with the Hoosiers’ last victory at Michigan Stadium coming in 1967.
