Game Analysis:
As it turns out, the NFL Draft is one that athletic young men don’t want to dodge. Opt-outs are happening all around the country, and the Citrus Bowl is no different. LSU and Purdue both come into this game after losing their conference championships to the nation’s top two teams. The problem for both will be if they can keep up their success without some of the players that got them there. Purdue will be without the passing connection that defined their offense this season, in Aidan O’Connell and Charlie Jones. This connection alone combined for nearly 1400 yards through the air this year, and it will be interesting to see if they have a replacement that can do damage to LSU’s defense. The Tigers on the other hand, will be without two of their top receivers in Kayshon Boutte and Jaray Jenkins. What they do have to look forward to in this game and into next season is Jaylen Daniels has opted into the team for another year.
This game will be an uphill battle for Purdue. A group of backups coming in to win the big game at the end of the year makes for a fun movie plot, not the best strategy for a game though. Purdue has a good enough program to be hopeful about the next group of players, but they will need some luck to pull off an upset against a better team. Daniel’s resurgent season has sustained LSU’s offense all year long and now he looks to cap this season off with a bowl before building on it next year. Expect LSU to get the win.
