Match Analysis:
The University of Texas Austin took care of business against Colegate in Des Moines, Iowa, when they won by 20 points on Thursday. Their win was pretty reliant on Sir Jabari Rice coming off the bench and dropping 23 points. Unless Rice becomes a breakout tournament player, they're going to need their starting 5 to step up. While we all would have loved to see the rivalry game between two Texas schools, I think the matchup against Penn State is going to be a very entertaining game to watch. Texas has some solid experience in the early rounds of the tournament, considering they made it to the second round in back-to-back years. Their only problem is that they haven’t made it much further in quite some time. The last time they made it past the sweet sixteen was under Rick Barnes in 2007. They may have done their job in the first round, but I could see them having their hands full in tomorrow's game.
Watching Penn State smoke A&M yesterday really reminded me how much I love basketball in March. They went on a run right before halftime, and it didn’t stop in the second half. I know everyone loves Jalen Pickett, but I think Andrew Funk is an absolute baller. Also, how could you not love a guy with a name like that? He put up 27 points last game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he scores even more in tomorrow's game. He really just has a nose for scoring points, and frankly, I don’t think Texas is going to have an answer for him. Penn State also put on a defensive display in their last game. They held A&M to 30% shooting with lockdown defense. If I were Texas, I would be terrified. State College has been underrated all season, and coaches in the tournament know it.
Tomorrow's matchup is going to be an interesting one, and I think the underdog is really going to have a shot. Penn State’s last game was pure domination, and I don’t see their next one going any differently. If you're trying to make money, cash in on the P-State money line. I don’t think you are going to regret it.
