Game Analysis:
INDIANAPOLIS — The Dallas Cowboys travel to Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, November 8, to take on the Indianapolis Colts in a Week 9 matchup between two teams looking to turn their seasons around. Dallas enters at 3-5 after a heartbreaking 33-30 overtime loss to Arizona, while Indianapolis sits at 2-6 following a 42-7 blowout loss to Jacksonville. Both teams are in need of a win, but the Cowboys have shown more offensive consistency heading into this matchup.
Dallas has been productive offensively despite its struggles to put together wins. Quarterback Dak Prescott has thrown for 2,046 yards and 14 touchdowns with five interceptions, while CeeDee Lamb leads the team with 709 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Running back Javonte Williams has added 528 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, giving the Cowboys a balanced option in the backfield. Dallas will need its offense to keep producing, especially against an Indianapolis defense that has struggled to stop opposing teams.
The Colts will rely heavily on running back Jonathan Taylor, who leads the team with 610 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Quarterback Daniel Jones has thrown for 1,542 yards, five touchdowns and nine interceptions, and his recent struggles have become a major concern. Despite being benched late in the loss to Jacksonville, Indianapolis coach Shane Steichen has confirmed Jones will remain the starter against Dallas. The Colts need a much cleaner performance from him to keep pace with the Cowboys' offense.
Defensively, Dallas has struggled to consistently stop opponents, allowing 26.6 points per game. That creates an opportunity for Taylor to establish the run and help Indianapolis control the tempo. However, the Colts have their own defensive problems, allowing 27.8 points per game and ranking near the bottom of the league in several categories. If Prescott gets time to throw, Lamb and the Cowboys' receiving corps could have opportunities to exploit the secondary.
The biggest question is whether Indianapolis can protect Jones and establish enough of a running game to take pressure off its struggling quarterback. Dallas has the more productive passing attack, while the Colts will need Taylor to carry a significant share of the offensive workload. With both defenses having difficulty containing opponents, this could turn into a high-scoring game. The Cowboys enter as the more convincing team offensively and have the edge heading into Indianapolis.
