Game Analysis:
NEW ORLEANS — The Cleveland Browns travel to the Caesars Superdome to face the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, November 8, in a Week 9 matchup between teams looking to get back on track. Cleveland enters at 5-3 after a disappointing 27-6 loss to Pittsburgh, while New Orleans is 2-5 and coming off its bye week. The Browns are still in the AFC North race, but they'll need a much stronger performance on both sides of the ball to avoid another setback.
Cleveland's biggest concern is getting its offense back on track. Quarterback Deshaun Watson has thrown for 1,806 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions, but the Browns were held to just six points against the Steelers. The offensive line also struggled, surrendering eight sacks in that game. Tight end Harold Fannin Jr. has been a reliable target, leading the team with 411 receiving yards, and running back Quinshon Judkins will be important in helping Cleveland establish a more balanced attack.
New Orleans will look to take advantage of Cleveland's recent defensive struggles. Quarterback Tyler Shough has thrown for 1,721 yards and 13 touchdowns, with Chris Olave emerging as his top target. Olave has recorded 636 receiving yards and gives the Saints a consistent downfield threat. New Orleans has struggled to establish its running game, however, and will need more production on the ground to keep the Browns from focusing on Shough and the passing attack.
The defensive matchup could be the deciding factor. Cleveland has recorded 21 sacks and six interceptions this season, and Myles Garrett remains a major threat to opposing quarterbacks. The Browns will look to pressure Shough and force him into mistakes, while New Orleans needs to protect its quarterback and prevent Cleveland from controlling the game at the line of scrimmage. The Saints have also struggled defensively at times, giving Watson an opportunity to rebound if he gets better protection.
Cleveland leads the all-time series 13-7, but New Orleans has won the last three meetings, including a 35-14 victory at the Superdome in 2024. The Saints have the benefit of playing at home and coming off a bye, while the Browns will be eager to respond after their lopsided loss to Pittsburgh. Cleveland has the stronger overall record, but its offensive line issues and New Orleans' recent success in this matchup make this a dangerous road game.
