IOWA CITY — No. 5 Ohio State visits No. 14 Iowa in one of Week 5’s marquee Big Ten matchups. Ohio State is 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play after beating Illinois 42-19, while Iowa is 4-0 and 1-0 after its dramatic 20-19 comeback win at No. 18 Michigan.
Ohio State’s offense is led by quarterback Julian Sayin, who has thrown for 1,206 yards and 10 touchdowns through four games. He was especially productive against Illinois, completing 27 of 36 passes for 367 yards and four touchdowns. Jeremiah Smith also had a huge performance with 12 catches for 217 yards and four touchdowns.
Iowa enters with one of the nation's better defenses. The Hawkeyes are allowing just 8 points per game and have given up only three touchdowns through four games. Hank Brown also delivered the biggest performance of his young career at Michigan, throwing two fourth-quarter touchdown passes, including the walk-off score to Reece Vander Zee.
The matchup is particularly interesting because Iowa has been much more effective running the ball this season, while Ohio State brings a high-powered passing attack. Iowa has four different 100-yard rushers already, while the Buckeyes will put their explosive passing game against a Hawkeye defense that has forced five turnovers.
This is Ohio State's first trip to Kinnick Stadium since 2017, when Iowa defeated the third-ranked Buckeyes 55-24. ESPN College GameDay is also returning to Iowa City for the first time since that same 2006 meeting between these programs.
