BATON ROUGE — No. 16 Mississippi State enters at 4-1 and 2-1 in SEC play, while No. 22 LSU is 4-2 and 1-2 in the conference. Mississippi State had a bye after a 56-23 loss to Alabama, while LSU is coming off a 35-34 overtime loss at Kentucky.
Mississippi State’s biggest storyline is quarterback Kamario Taylor. He leads the SEC with 290 passing yards per game and 17 touchdown passes, but a lower-leg injury suffered against Missouri and aggravated against Alabama has left his status uncertain. Parker “Billy” Puckett and AJ Swann are the backup options if Taylor cannot go.
Anthony Evans III remains the Bulldogs’ biggest weapon in the passing game. He leads the SEC with 8.0 receptions and 114.8 receiving yards per game and has five touchdowns. His ability to create explosive plays will be particularly important if Mississippi State has to adjust its offense because of Taylor’s health.
