Game Analysis:
Have you ever made something in the hopes that it breaks or doesn’t work in the hopes of proving a point to someone? That is exactly what the General Manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder tried to do. And yet somehow, the Thunder don’t even know how to tank properly so they’re still in this Play-In game. Of these two teams only one wants to be there, and it’s the one with future superstar Zion Williamson and current superstar CJ McCollum. Take the Pelicans in this one.
The Thunder are a team that somehow doesn’t know how to tank. I guess they’re at least better than the Mavericks at it though since they’re not currently getting investigated by the league. But all jokes aside, this is a team that doesn’t know what it wants to be right now. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a player that needs to be on a win-now team. The man is averaging 31.4 points per game, and making it look easy. And I’m not saying the younger players he’s surrounded by are scrubs, but they’re at least a few years away from being a legit core. So Oklahoma’s star player has a timeline that lines up with the rest of their cores’ timelines about as well as a square peg fits in a round hole. And I’m supposed to believe this team wants to go deeper into the post-season this year and not try and get a higher draft pick with the amount of draft capital that team has. Yea, alright.
The Pelicans on the other hand are shifting into their prime years. If this team can remain healthy or at least get healthy heading into the playoffs they are legitimate threats. When Zion plays he scores 26 points per game and grabs 7 rebounds per game. He can still jump out of the gym, and it’s a downright crime that he isn’t opting into the dunk contests. When their other star player Brandon Ingram plays he’s scoring 24.7 points per game with over 5 rebounds and assists per game to go along with it. And of course, their ever-constant superstar Cj McCollum is another player who is averaging over 20 points per game. So what I'm gathering is that when this team is fully healthy they are one of the few teams in the NBA to have three players all averaging over 20 points per game. Good luck stopping this squad. Oh and just the other night in an overtime win against Memphis, Trey Murphy III, Herb Jones, and CJ all broke the 30-point barrier as well. So this team somehow has five legitimate 30-point game scorers. But I guess Oklahoma has Josh Giddey?
The Thunder are too young to pose any legitimate threat to this Pelicans team. Take New Orleans in this one & get a shirt from the Friday Beers merch shop on us!
