Match Analysis:
nd Now! After over a three year hiatus, Jon “Bones” Jones is back and fighting for a belt against Ciryl Gane for the heavyweight belt. Here’s what you need to know to (responsibly) make the most out of this sweet offer from Bet365.
Cyril Gane is a French national with a professional record of 11-1. His lone loss came at the hands of Francis Ngannou in January 2022 in a title fight. His last bout, which was in September against Tai Tuivasa, ended in a round 3 knockout. Gane is a big fella, standing at six foot four and weighing in at around 250 pounds. He’s never been knocked out or submitted, which is funny because he is French and seems to prefer to end his fights by KO. Jones also stands six-four, but is significantly lighter, walking at around 205 pounds. While Gane is no spring chicken, Jones is three years older and 35. He hasn’t fought since before the pandemic, and despite being one of, if not the goat of MMA is only favored by a bit. It seems like Vegas is giving a lot of respect to Gane, and I will too. While it will be a tough fight, as the odds show, a Gane victory is by no means out of the question.
Now Jon Jones, once he retires, will go down as one of the best to ever do it in the UFC. To put this in a little better perspective, the last time Jones lost was 2009. Empire State of Mind was the number 1 song, Jersey Shore had just debuted on MTV, and Tiger Woods announced a break from golf following a cheating scandal. Jon Bones also has the most title fight victories with 14, and he has never lost his belt to another fighter, but he got it taken away multiple times because he was a bad boy. If he had never lost the belt due to his bad behavior or time away from the sport, he would have held it since March 2011. Wow. Now despite his age and time away from the game, Vegas likes Jones, and I think I do too. Gane is on the older side, too, and is nowhere near the wrestler that Jones is. If he can control the fight while they’re on their feet and get some takedowns, I really like Jon “Bones” Jones to get his title back and solidify his resume as the best to ever do it.
